Backhanders weren't too bad, what many kids also got at home for being cheeky! However, one day in the dining room one lad said something to one of the staff and I have never seen a kid beaten so badly. I don't know what was said but the staff member completely lost it. Thumping and kicking the boy. Other staff just looked on rather than stepping in and stopping the beating. Bearing in mind this was against a young lad of about 13 years old it was bad.

Overall though I didn't find it too bad there and tended to just keep my head down and behave myself to keep out of trouble.
