Subject: Sex abuse

I was interested in the latest revelation in the Jimmy Savile saga. Complaints were made to the police in 1963 but they refused to act. Early in 1962 I complained to the headmaster of my approved school about unwanted sexual advances of a staff member and was caned for making scurrilous allegations and I was held in isolation for some time. I just kept absconding which kept me away from the pervert. It would have been a waste of time going to the police. No-one cared about Approved School kids. I went back to the police about 10 years ago because I wanted things on record, and in case other people had complained. The police didn't want to know. They didn't actually come out and say that, but it was obvious from their attitude. I survived the abuse, many didn't and had their lives blighted.
