Subject: St Gilbert's

St. Gilbert's was indeed run by the de la Salle brothers, a Catholic religious order. I worked there in the 1970s. The brothers mostly were wonderfully dedicated men, although by this time there weren't many of them. We had an amazing educational facility with art and pottery, science math, and the humanities, departments for learning building, carpentry and painting trades and a farm.I believe it became a local government property in the late seventies, and later closed when most of these types of schools closed. We had, if I remember correctly, about 90 adolescent boys, mostly from inner city Birmingham. Just wanted to put the record straight.
