Subject: Forde Park School

Stumbled on this site while I was idly looking to see if Forde Park got a mention on Google. It does , of course, because of a lot of abuse claims and court cases involving ex-members of staff. I was at Forde Park from Jan 1959 to Sep 1963 and never once heard of any sexual abuse.
Maybe the place went downhill after my time , but I`ve always thought of it as a decent place that gave me a reasonable education and taught me to respect authority and consider others.
Forde Park did`nt cure me completely. I went on to Ardale (absconded and re-offended) , Rochester Borstal (21 months - Rodney,Nelson,Hawk houses - bad time there), Reading Borstal ( 5 1/2 months recall - very bad time, beaten up on day one, attempted suicide, but the PT did`nt half make me fit).
It was Reading that made me realise that I did`nt want to go back and I`ve tried to lead a decent life since then. Several of the messages on this site say just the same as I`ve thought for a long time - young offenders get it too easy these days, and it shows.
You might be interested to know that since I left Reading in May 1966 (a sunny day - I had a train ticket, about £3, a packet of fags and a piece of paper telling me that I was on `licence`) I have never told any one - not even the two wives that I`ve had - the whole story of where I was from 59 to 66.
It is good to know that there is a site like this where people with skeletons in the cupboard can air their views.
Good luck everyone . Happy Christmas.
