今天收到中大工商管理學院會計學院給中七生有關admission orientation的一封信，發現其中驚心動魄的一句：

There will also have sharing sessions of our students and alumni.

這封信是他們的director 所寫，屬典型的中式英語，懂英語的人都知錯在哪裡。我問一位大學生，這句有什麼問題，他的回答是：「很多人都這樣說，沒有錯。」我感到譁然。

又最近一家教育機構招聘銷售員，我面試時讀一讀給學生的通告，上面寫著：「The mock examination students have applied will take place on ...」這又是另一個典型錯誤。它們連最基本的英文都未了了，便設帳講學，推出高級文憑英語課程，我只能叫它們的學生自求多福。想起招聘，不能不想起：All the information will be used for employment-related purpose這一句，英文裡只有：for employment-related purposes ，沒有單數purpose 的用法，求職版中只有一兩篇是對的。

同學說這樣太挑剔。是否挑剔其實只要翻翻字典就清楚。Apply 這句字，作「及物動詞」和「非及物動詞」的意思迴然不同，連句子的意思都顛倒了。

現在大家都說香港學生的英文程度越來越低，其實，英文程度低劣的哪裡只是一般學生。
