This is what is listed on the North American Feis Commission website: "Advanced Beginner Grade: An advanced beginner who wins 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place will advance to the Novice category in that particular dance." We've kind of learned to ask our TC about moving up levels, even if I am aware of my dd's placements, I verify it with our TC so she knows what we're doing. I hope this helps.
