Subject: Please share your thoughts?

Hi! I started this new forum so I can find out what you ladies think about mail-in pageants. Here are a few I am thinking of entering but I have more. I want to see what you have to say about these five first. Please BE REAL about what you think. I dont want to get screwed!

Queen of Queens
Miss American Coronet
Miss US Superior Star Pageant
Miss Magical Gem Pageant
Elite USA Pageant

Some of them I got from the mailinpageant.com website and they look really good. Have you entered any of them and what did you think?

NO IPS will be posted here. You do not have to use your name or email. Everything here is private. I just want information on these pageants or directors.

Thank you - B.O.

Hi I have joined the Miss Elite Beauty USA and it is great, right now I have competed for the summer contest for 2006 and I'm also Mrs. Midwest for the Queen of Queens, right now I'm just waiting for my prizes to come thru the mail, it's a wonderful experience and I would definately do it again, and for me to do a live pageant I will wait for that.

I'm new to mail ins to so nice to meet you!

Queen of Queens I have not entered or read much about. I was going to enter Miss American Coronet but now she has raised her prices. I think Miss US Superior Star gives more bang for the buck then Miss American Coronet does. I will probably enter the superior star one. I have not entered Miss Magical Gem but I LOVE the prizes! I have read a lot about the director but that is mostly on forum pages that like to bash everyone so I dont pay attention. I have talked with and emailed the director of Miss US Superior Star and Miss Magical Gem (same director) and she was wonderful and returned my emails really quick. I have still not heard back from some others I emailed. Elite looks good. I will probably enter that one to.

Hope that helps you a little!

Miss American Rose is a good pageant. I entered it a few years back and the prizes were nice. It does cost quite a bit of money in the end if you go through city, state, Nationals and Worlds. At least it is broken up over time though.

There is True Beauty. I am not really liking the website and it seems the same people enter all the time so not to keen on that one.

I have entered Elite before. It is a nice one.

I am thinking about entering Magical Gem. I love the crown on Superior star so I may go for that one. I haven't joined up yet but the message board there looks really nice to. I will probably register.

Oh, and I like Royal Stars. It looks like a nice one but I haven't made up my mind.

I like the name of your message board BO. Nice idea to.;)

American Beauties State to State is one I am looking into. A bit pricey but so are most of them. I like the prizes but I think the Director looks pretty young. I am going through a lot of them at mailinpageants.com to. I am so undecided. I will like to read here to see what others say about them.

The director is a bit young but she is very professional. I am a national queen for one of her other pageant productions. She quickly responds to all questions and emails in a friendly fashion. She sent all prizes as advertised.

I had a very positive experience with the director.

Mailin pageants are great. No stress. I love them.

Take care everyone,

You guys are so nice to write what you think and your own pageant relationships.

I am 27 and I live in Utah. I'm moving to New Mexico before the end of the year. I may not enter any pageants until I am settled in. Dollars are tight right now - grin. Sometimes I think I am to old to enter but it is so much fun to try! I heard that even 80 yera old women join the mailins so why not me? grin. Maybe I can get in at least one in before I move so it is nice to get some feedback from others on what they think.

Let me know if you learn anything new. I am still looking. I will post what I find out to.

The director is a bit young but she is very professional. Please do not let her age distract from her contest. I am a national queen for one of her other pageant productions. She quickly responds to all questions and emails in a friendly fashion. She sent all prizes as advertised.

I had a very positive experience with the director.

I have also entered
-ELITE USA
-ANGELIC QUEEN
-MISS BEAUTIFUL US MODEL
-MISS BEAUTIFUL US INTERNATIONAL MODEL

I would highly recommend these contests. The director is outstanding. Her sites are updated frequently and she answers emails promptly. Her prizes are as advertised and has fun side optionals.

I hope to enter Magical Gem and Palm Beach Triple Crown.

Mailin pageants are great. No stress. I love them.

Take care everyone,

I have been away helping victims of Katrina and thought I would stop in.

It doesn't look like this board is being used much. I will probably just let it go. I am glad to all of you who did post. Entering pageants right now is probably not on the top of my priority list. I have a lot of things going on, but thank you for posting!

Hi I have been doing mail-in pageants for over 2 years now, both me and my daughter and these are the ones I recommend. Miss American Rose, Miss World Rose, Miss Elite Beauty USA, Miss Angelic Queen of America, Miss Royal Star and True Beauty. Those to stay away from are Queen of Queens,and Miss American Coronet. The reason I would advise against these are the Queen of Queens Director is the same Director as one of the Christmas Mail-in Pageants out there. I didn't recieve my prizes at first and when I finally did it was only an itty bitty little pin. As far as Miss American Coronet is concerned, it took a long time to recieve my state prize package and then when I was supposed to get my portfolio (which I had put alot of time and effort into) back with the plaque I had won she said they got lost in the mail. When I asked her if she had gotten delivery confirmation she said it was too expensive and didn't get it!! So according to her my package was lost in the mail but I don't think she ever sent it out.I spent $150 on this pageant and all I got was a banner and crown. I know how much these cost and they did not = $150. Now her entry fee has gone up and I think she is only in it for the money. She should just stay a contestant and not a Director. As far as the good pageants I have always recieved the prizes shown and in a timel manner. They have all lived up to their good reputation.

Dream Girls USA has a mail in for hometown queen titles. You can then go on to state and nationals, where they give out a $10,000 bond to the top winner. This website is for Michigan, but it has links to the other sites and nationals. Go to www.freewebs.com/midreamgirls . I love this system!

Uh yeah... stay away from Dream Girls USA!! The pageant is rigged hardcore! I happen to be good friends with a former state director that was run out of DG USA because she got smart and starting asking questions about the way it is run...

I have wanted to enter a pageant all of my life. A mail-in looks like my chance to enter, at last. I am a grandmother, in my 40s. I think that American Rose looks nice. I e-mailed the Elite Beauty director months ago but she has'nt written back yet! Does anyone have any mail-in advice to a new (old) pageant wanna be?

You will probably find the entry procedure fairly straightforward because you have a passport and other essential documents

You will be interviewed by a Canada Customs officer. You will need to give the officer a list of all the household and personal items that you will be bringing into Canada.

You should also show the immigrant visa to the customs officer, who will refer you to an immigration officer.

The immigration officer will check your visa and travel documents and ask you questions similar to those on the Immigrant Application Form, to verify that you are of good character and in good health.

At this time, you may also be asked to show proof of your funds. If there are no difficulties, the officer will authorize your entry to Canada as a permanent resident by signing your Record
of Landing or Confirmation of Permanent Residence.

If you arrive at one of the major Canadian airports, you will get a booklet called Welcome to Canada: What You Should Know.

It has information on most aspects of life in Canada. It also provides addresses and telephone numbers for:

immigrant-serving organizations acrossCanada;

language training assessment centres(which help eligible adult newcomers find free language classes);

useful federal and provincial government offices.

Make-up timeline
To ensure your eyes stay healthy and free of infection when using make-up, heed the following due-date rules. Throw out your mascara after three months, powder eye shadows every nine to 18 months, and cream eye shadows every six to 12 months. Sharpen your eyeliners often to keep them clean

Mascara mistakes
To avoid mascara flake-off or smudging on your face, apply a thin cost of mascara to top lashes only. Then run an eyelash brush through lashes to prevent clumpy mascara build-up.

Get a rosy glow
Want your face to radiate a healthy glow? Try using a gel blush or cream (instead of powder) in a rosy shade of pink to create a more natural look. Gels or creams are more transparent and blend smoothly – rub it on the apples of your cheek and blend up towards the eye for a glowing complexion.

Minute manicure
Need a fast fix for unpolished nails? File nails into a square shape, buff them to create a bit of shine and apply a clear coat of polish. Next rub in cuticle oil around the edges of the nail and moisturize your whole hand. It takes less than 15 minutes and will give your appearance a polished look.

Brow etiquette
The trend in eyebrows for this season is natural looking, not sparse and skinny. Use a tinted brow definer or eyeshadow to fill in scanty brows.

Fix tired feet
Pamper your tired feet with a luxurious footbath. Fill a basin with warm water and add a few drops of essential oils. Next place marbles or small stones (found at your local garden centre) into the basin. Run your toes and soles of your feet over the marbles, and relax for 15 minutes.

Eye/lip pencil care
Before sharpening your eyeliner or lip pencil, place them in the freezer for 10 minutes. They will harden slightly and not break when sharpened.

Eyeliner hint
Women with deep-set eyes should use liquid liner instead of regular pencil eyeliner, to prevent smudging in the crease of the lid. Liquid liner does not smudge as easily.

Nail polish know-how
Is your nail polish from last season too thick? Chances are the polish has begun to thicken at the bottom of the bottle. Add a bit of nail polish thinner to the bottle to get the maximum use of your nail polish.

Foundation tester
When picking out a concealer or foundation, always test the colour on the inside of your wrist. The skin there is the most unblemished and will give you a good idea of how it will look on your face.

Extend your foundation

Want to extend the life of your foundation and cut down on heavy concealer? Mix a drop of it with your natural moisturizer to create a luminescent look for your skin.

Curl your lashes
Before curling your eyelashes, heat the curler with a hair dryer for a few seconds. Test to make sure it is not too hot, then apply to eyelashes. The heat will lock in the curl on extra long eyelashes.

Foundation secret
Apply foundation to your face AFTER you have done your eye make-up. This helps you to fix any last minute smudging from mascara or eyeliner under the eyes.

Lipstick trick
Love matte lipstick, but feel your dry lips wreck the look? Apply a lip balm to lips before starting your make-up routine. By the time you have done your eyes and rest of the face, your lips will be moisturized and ready for the matte lipstick.

Manicure tip
If you have been sloppy applying nail polish, simply soak nails (when dry) in warm water for a few minutes and then rub off extra nail polish gently with a finger. visit: <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://www.nikharearab.com/cosmetictips.html">http://www.nikharearab.com/cosmetictips.html</a>

Purchase two shades of blush, one of a deeper shade and one that's lighter. To ensure the shades go together, purchase a compact with two coordinating shades.
Apply your usual foundation make-up or powder to cover any imperfections and even out your skin tone.
Apply the lighter shade of blush in circular motions onto the apples of your cheeks... how do you to find your apples? Just smile!
Next, following the line of your cheekbones, apply a sheer sweep of the deeper shade of blush.
Blend, blend and blend. The key with this trick is to create dimension, but you do not want a very obvious demarcation between your natural cheek color and the blush (i.e. think stripes!).visit: <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://nikhar-e-arab.com/slimfacemakeup.html">http://nikhar-e-arab.com/slimfacemakeup.html</a>

Although varicose veins certainly lack popularity -- they are right down there with cellulite for the least desirable bodily attribute -- they are actually quite "popular" in that a great many people have them.Up to 30 million Americans have these ropey, bulging veins, usually on the legs. Women age 30 and older are most commonly affected, but no one is immune. Even Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones "can't get no satisfaction" -- he reportedly has calves crisscrossed by them.There are things you can do to reduce them:
Do regular exercise. Walking, running, cycling & swimming keep blood vessels healthy.
Stick to a high-fibre & low-salt diet. Kick off the high heels. Avoid tight-fitting clothings or undergarments that restrict blood flow at the waist, groin & legs (e.g. girdles, stockings & socks). If elastic stockings are recommended, wear them before getting out of bed in the morning. Don't leave legs crossed or bent for a long period. If work requires prolonged standing or sitting, move & stretch those legs, rotate ankles & wiggle the toes once in a while. Do leg stretching exercises daily. Raise legs above the level of the heart whenever possible. Rest those legs on pillows while sleeping. Stop smoking Although varicose veins aren't usually considered a significant health problem, they can make life miserable. "Varicose veins shouldn't be viewed as only a cosmetic concern," said Dr. Alan Hirsch, a specialist in vascular medicine at the University of Minnesota. Often, the discomfort over the veins' appearance is equalled by the aching pain they can cause, particularly after a long day of sitting or standing. In addition, the veins may signal a higher risk for other more serious blood vessel disorders. visit: <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://www.nikhar-e-arab.com/varicoseveins.html">http://www.nikhar-e-arab.com/varicoseveins.html</a>

In Canada, women have the same legal status, rights and opportunities as men. Most Canadian men respect women as equals - socially, in the workplace and in the home.

Violence against women is against the law.

Women who are abused can seek help for themselves and their children in local shelters.

They are also entitled to legal protection to keep them safe.

The regular school year runs from late August or early September until mid- to late June.

New students can usually be registered throughout the school year. Most schools are
closed on national holidays. Also, all schools are closed between Christmas Eve and New
Year's Day, and most are closed for a week in March for spring break. The longest school

Universities and community colleges hold their regular classes from late August or early

When you register your children at the local school or school board office, you must take with you:

* Canadian immigrant visa (permanent resident card);
* birth certificate or baptismal certificate;
* vaccination certificate;
* any previous school records.

Your children's language and mathematical skills will be assessed, if necessary, and they will be placed in the program the school thinks is best for them.

Education in Canada is available in English and French. Many Canadian parents, even if they do not speak French themselves, believe it is good for their children to be able to speak both English and French. Some put their children in a French immersion program, where children learn most of the regular subjects in French.

Apply hand lotion and begin to massage the palm of your hand with the thumb of your other hand. This will help to circulate the blood. Work your way over the remainder of the hand and then repeat giving equal time to the other hand. Before color is applied to nails, they must be cleaned and the easiest way to do this is with an orange stick that has been wrapped with cotton. Dip into nail polish remover and then rub over the surface of the nail. Check the nail for any creamy residue. When none remains, your nails will be ready for polishing. Time for color. Pick up a small amount of polish on your brush and paint one stroke down the center of your nail. Your brush should hold just enough color to accomplish this. Stroke the sides of the nail and you are done. The nail should be completely colored in three strokes. Allow to set for a minute or so before applying the second coat. Wait until polish is set (dry to the touch) and then apply the top coat. Don't skip this step as it not only adds life to your manicure, it will protect your nails as well.
Sanitize all of your equipment with alcohol and when they are dry, store them away until the next manicure. Nail Tips: Nail polish can be stored in the fridge. If your nail polish is too thick, try thinning with a polish thinner. To prevent the cap from sticking, coat it with a little Vaseline to prevent this from happening. visit: <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://nikhar-e-arab.com/nailcare.html">http://nikhar-e-arab.com/nailcare.html</a>

Canada has a public health-care system known as "medicare." It provides insurance coverage for health-care services to all Canadian citizens and permanent residents.(You will be a "permanent resident.") The federal government sets health-care standards for the whole country, but the programs are run by the provincial ministries of health. More information on the healthcare system can be found in chapter 4.

: Apply for provincial health-care coverage as soon as possible after you arrive in the province where you plan to live.

Note: British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick have a three-month waiting
period before you become eligible for medicare coverage. If you are planning to settle in any of these provinces, you should buy private health insurance coverage for the first three months. Insurance companies are listed in the Yellow Pages of all Canadian telephone books, under "Insurance."

: Bring a supply of your medications with you to allow you time to find a family doctor in Canada from whom you will have to get new prescriptions.

Rental costs vary greatly across cities and across Canada. Housing is more reasonable outside the large cities.

One of the most important things you need to do as soon as you arrive in Canada is to apply for a health insurance card.

All members of your family, even newborn babies, must have their own card. You can get an application form from the provincial ministry of health office, any doctor's office, a hospital or a pharmacy.

If necessary, the immigrant-serving organization in your area can help you fill out the form.

To apply for a health card, you will need your birth certificate or Confirmation of Permanent Residence and passport. The permanent resident card may also be presented.

In most provinces, you will receive coverage as soon as you apply.

Health-care services covered by medicare include:

examination and treatment by family doctors;

many types of surgery;

most treatment by specialists;

hospital care;

X-rays;

many laboratory tests; and

most immunizations.

Health-care services not covered by medicare, and for which you will have to pay, include:

ambulance services;

prescription drugs;

dental care; and

glasses and contact lenses.

These services are sometimes covered by workplace benefit packages.

Your health insurance card is mainly for use in the province where you live. If you are visiting another province and have a medical emergency, you can use your card.

However, if you move to another province, you will need to apply for a new card.

As people in Canada tend to move in the spring and summer months, these are the best times to look for a home; there will be more choices available.

In Ontario, British Columbia, New Brunswick and Quebec, there is a threemonth waiting period before you become eligible for medicare coverage. If you are immigrating to any of these provinces, you should get private, short-term health-care insurance for the first three months.

Insurance companies are listed in the Yellow Pages of all Canadian telephone books, under "Insurance".

There are hundreds of immigrant-serving organizations in Canada. Many are staffed by former newcomers to Canada, who understand the challenges that immigrants may face. They usually have people available who speak your language and can accompany you as interpreters. Citizenship and Immigration Canada supports many of these organizations financially, helping
newcomers adapt to life in Canada.

Settling in will be much easier if you contact an immigrant-serving organization as soon as
you arrive. The people who work for these organizations can help you find a place to live and can answer your questions about shopping, education for your children, transportation, language training and other important matters.

Immigrant-serving organizations can help you:

find a place to live;

get your Social Insurance Number andhealth-care card;

enrol your children in school;

get language training;

find a family doctor;

find out about government and community services for newcomers;

look for a job;

develop a realistic budget; and

get emergency food aid, if it is needed.

Note:

In Quebec, the Ministčre de l'Immigrationet des Communautés culturelles is organized into different regions. Each region has a local office, called a Carrefour d'intégration, which works with the immigrant-serving organizations to help newcomers adapt to life in Quebec.

Most immigrant-serving organizations offer, or can provide information on, the following
Government of Canada programs.

LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada)

LINC is a federal government program for all eligible adult immigrants.

It offers:

free language training for adult newcomers who want or need basic English or French;

language classes given by school boards, colleges and local organizations;

the choice of studying part-time, full-time, evenings or weekends, depending on your
needs and your schedule; and

transportation and child-minding, if necessary.

Don't skip breakfast. You will lose weight more quickly if you have a bite to eat in the morning. Drink hot water with lemon Eat hot meals rather than cold. Your metabolism speeds up very slightly when you eat and again if the food is hot. Do at least thirty minutes of cardiovascular exercise, five days a week. This will condition you to burn fat more efficiently. Don't deprive your body of carbohydrates, no matter what they say.
You need carbs for energy and will feel terrible without them. Wear a pedometer and see that you take 1,000 steps every day. If you have a sit-down job, get up every hour and walk around for five minutes or so. Dedicate two hours a week to weight training, concentrating on the larger muscles. Every other day is optimal. visit: <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://nikhar-e-arab.com/spendupmetabolism.html">http://nikhar-e-arab.com/spendupmetabolism.html</a>

One of the most common problems people have with losing weight is pitfalls like eating out. Here are a few ways you can control how much you eat:As soon as your food is served, ask for a box and put half of your meal into it, to take home. Restaurant portions are usually twice the size they should be anyway. Don't ruin a nice, low fat salad with creamy dressing. Go for the vinaigrette or oil and vinegar, and use them sparingly.
Don't let yourself down by getting (or sharing) a dessert. Order some fruit or Jell-O instead, if you must have something sweet. Arrive with a healthy meal in mind and ask for it without opening your menu. This will spare you the pain of looking at an array of temptation. After each bite, put your fork down, and don't pick it up again until you've completely swallowed the last bite. visit: <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://nikhar-e-arab.com/eatoutondiet.html">http://nikhar-e-arab.com/eatoutondiet.html</a>

* Have you considered living in one of Canada's smaller or medium-sized cities, or in a rural community? Have you used the Internet to learn about these choices?
* Have you considered the season and climate you will find when you arrive, and the clothing that you will need?
* Have you considered contacting an immigrant-serving organization soon after you arrive in Canada?
* Have you considered taking English or French lessons through the LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) program?

Make-up timeline : To ensure your eyes stay healthy and free of infection when using make-up, heed the following due-date rules. Throw out your mascara after three months, powder eye shadows every nine to 18 months, and cream eye shadows every six to 12 months. Sharpen your eyeliners often to keep them clean.
Mascara mistakes: To avoid mascara flake-off or smudging on your face, apply a thin cost of mascara to top lashes only. Then run an eyelash brush through lashes to prevent clumpy mascara build-up. Get a rosy glow: Want your face to radiate a healthy glow? Try using a gel blush or cream (instead of powder) in a rosy shade of pink to create a more natural look. Gels or creams are more transparent and blend smoothly – rub it on the apples of your cheek and blend up towards the eye for a glowing complexion. Minute manicure: Need a fast fix for unpolished nails? File nails into a square shape, buff them to create a bit of shine and apply a clear coat of polish. Next rub in cuticle oil around the edges of the nail and moisturize your whole hand. It takes less than 15 minutes and will give your appearance a polished look. Brow etiquette: The trend in eyebrows for this season is natural looking, not sparse and skinny. Use a tinted brow definer or eyeshadow to fill in scanty brows. Fix tired feet: Pamper your tired feet with a luxurious footbath. Fill a basin with warm water and add a few drops of essential oils. Next place marbles or small stones (found at your local garden centre) into the basin. Run your toes and soles of your feet over the marbles, and relax for 15 minutes. visit:<a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://www.nikhar-e-arab.com/slimfacemakeup.html">http://www.nikhar-e-arab.com/slimfacemakeup.html</a>

Craving chocolate? Eat a banana. It sometimes satisfies the yearning for chocolate and is much less fattening. Chew sugarless gum. It speeds up the digestive system, burning more calories, and sometimes kills a craving. Exercise! Your appetite will temporarily subside and you'll feel better about taking such a proactive approach. Still craving chocolate? Try a magnesium supplement. Many women are deficient in this mineral, which is found in chocolate. Craving fatty foods? Eat fish, or take a fish oil or flaxseed oil supplement. You may be low in essential fatty acids. Grab something to drink. Sometimes, cravings for food are really thirst in disguise. Sweet tooth? Protein, fat and fiber keep blood sugar levels more even and help keep such cravings under control. Watch your caffeine intake. Caffeine seems to make sugar cravings worse. If your will power weakens at night, try leaving the lights on until the minute you go to bed. Dimmed lights tend to lower inhibitions. Turn off the lights in your kitchen and avoid hanging out there. visit: <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://nikhar-e-arab.com/stopfoodcraving.html">http://nikhar-e-arab.com/stopfoodcraving.html</a>

Even if you have many years of experience, you do not automatically have the right to practise your trade or profession in Canada.In most cases, you will need to have your credentials assessed to see whether you need more training, education or Canadian work experience before being qualified to practise.You may wish to get your credentials evaluated before you leave for Canada. The following organizations can tell you how to get your credentials assessed.The Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials Web site (www.cicic.ca) has information on academic and occupational credentials for all of Canada and lists nearly 200 professions and trades, in alphabetical order.When you click on your profession or trade, you will find a link to the address and telephone number of the professional or trade association, the addresses and telephone numbers of provincial evaluation services and regulatory agencies, and labour market information (for example, whether there is a demand for people with your particular trade or profession). You will also be able to find out whether your profession or trade is regulated.The Centre does not grant equivalencies or assess credentials. It gives advice and refers newcomers to sources of help.

This sitewill help you get ready to leave your home country and make a new life in Canada. It was written especially for newcomers. It tells you what documents you will need to bring, what to expect in the first few days and weeks, how to find a place to live, get a Social Insurance Number and a healthcare card, and find a job. It also explains what services you can expect to receive from the immigrant-serving organizations across Canada. You will also find useful information about Canada's geography, history, government and way of life, and how to become a Canadian citizen. You can either read this site from cover to cover, or one section at a time, depending on what you need to know. If you have access to the Internet, you can do more research before you leave for Canada by visiting the Web sites listed. A Newcomer's Introduction to Canada was written to give you helpful information for planning ahead, but it is not a detailed guide. When you arrive in Canada, you will be recieved a book called Welcome to Canada: What You Should Know, from the Government of Canada It contains specific information on all the practical aspects of living in Canada. visit: <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://settlement_in_canada.sitesled.com/synopsis.htm">http://settlement_in_canada.sitesled.com/synopsis.htm</a>

Canada is a land of many cultures and many peoples. Aboriginal peoples have occupied the territory now called Canada for several thousands of years. Everybody else, either by birth or by descent, has been an immigrant - we have all come from somewhere else. It has been said that Canada is a "nation of immigrants."There are three main groups of Aboriginal peoples in Canada: the First Nations, the Inuit and the Métis. There are more than 50 different languages spoken by Canada's Aboriginal peoples, most of which are spoken only in Canada. In fact, the name "Canada" may have come from the word "Kanata," which means a settlement in the language of the Huron-Iroquois First Nations peoples. As a country, Canada came into being on July 1, 1867. This event is known as "Confederation." Before 1867, the French arrived first, then the British. Each brought their own language, system of government, laws and culture. In 1763, after a long war between the British and the French, all of Canada came under British rule and was known as "British North America." In the late 18th and into the 19th century, during and after the time of the American Revolution, many African-Americans and United Empire Loyalists fled the United States for Canada, where British ties remained and slavery had been abolished. During the mid- to late 19th and early 20th century, waves of immigrants arrived from Europe, attracted by the opportunity of a new and better life in Canada. Some settled in towns and cities; others worked in factories, mines and lumber camps. Many were farmers who turned the Prairie region into wheat fields. Asian immigrants from China, Japan and India settled mainly in the western provinces during this time. Many immigrants helped build Canada's national railways, which joined the east and west coasts and opened up the interior for settlement. After both world wars, thousands of Europeans came to Canada as immigrants and refugees and helped build Canada's post-war economy. Over the last 50 years, people from all over the globe have sought a better life or have sought refuge in Canada, fleeing civil wars, political unrest and natural disasters. Canada still needs the skills, talents and enthusiasm of newcomers to build our country, together with those who have come before them. All of this has been reflected in Canada's immigration and refugee policies. Today, Canada is home to immigrants from more than 240 countries. Most newcomers decide to become citizens of Canada, after they are settled and have met the requirements of Canadian citizenship. visit: <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://settlement_in_canada.sitesled.com/history.htm">http://settlement_in_canada.sitesled.com/history.htm</a>

In Canada, about 20 percent of jobs are regulated by the government to protect public health and safety.For example, nurses, doctors, engineers, teachers and electricians all work in regulated professions.People who want to work in regulated jobs need to get a licence from the regulatory body in the province in which they live.If you want to know more about how to enter a particular profession or trade in a particular province, you should contact the provincial regulatory body for that job.The professions are selfregulating and they administer the provincial laws that apply to their profession. Rules for entering professions also differ from province to province. for more information visit: <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://settlement_in_canada.sitesled.com/employment.htm">http://settlement_in_canada.sitesled.com/employment.htm</a>

Lining up or queuing: People normally line up or queue according to the principle of "first-come, first-served." They will be angry if you push ahead in a lineup instead of waiting your turn. Not smoking in private homes: Most Canadians do not smoke. When you are in people's homes, you should always ask their permission to smoke. If they do not smoke themselves, they may ask you to go outside to smoke. Being on time: You should always arrive on time - at school, at work and for any meeting. People who are often late may be fired from their jobs or suspended from school. Many Canadians will not wait more than 10 or 15 minutes for someone who has a business meeting. For social events, people expect that you will arrive within half an hour of the stated time. Respect for the environment: Canadians respect the natural environment and expect people to avoid littering (dropping waste paper and other garbage on the street or throwing it out of your car). They expect you to hold on to your garbage until you can find a proper garbage can. Bargaining: Bargaining for a better price is not common in Canada, but there are some exceptions. For example, almost everyone bargains for a better price when buying a car or a house, or other expensive items such as furniture. People who sell things privately may also bargain. Smart shopping: Stores compete with one another to attract customers, so it is wise to check and compare prices at different stores before you buy. Note: The price marked on goods in stores does not usually include the federal and provincial sales taxes, which add from 7 percent to 15 percent to the cost of an item, depending on the province in which you buy it. visit: <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://settlement_in_canada.sitesled.com/impsocial.htm">http://settlement_in_canada.sitesled.com/impsocial.htm</a>

Tall women. Tall women can indulge in wide belts, avoid tight clothes and skirts that are to short or to long. Beauty expert Stephanie Faber recommends tall women play down their waist by wearing their blouses over the pants and skirts and avoid tight belts. Hip heavy triangle woman. A hip heavy triangle and round full figured women can use clothes with vertical lines to make an up and down illusion. V-necks and skirts with slits up the sides are also good. Clothes with small padded shoulders should be chosen . Too big of pads will make you look like a foot ball player. Wear long tops that go passed your hips. Choose jackets, tailored suits and shirtwaist dresses with straight, classic cuts. Lighter colors on top can be worn, this brings eyes up. Wear dark stockings and avoid patterns. Select vertical, fluid patterns and avoid bulky fabrics. Adopt the just below the knee look in dresses and skirts. Choose accessories close to the same color clothes you are wearing including shoes. This gives your body an unbroken slimmer look. Avoid very wide pinafore skirts. Stay with straight or Aline skirts. Top heavy woman. The top heavy body types need to choose long jackets without shoulder pads. Do not wear blouses with fancy details and ruffles. Do not wear clingy fabrics on top, choose darker colors on top. Do not wear tops that are to light. Tops with dolman or raglan sleeves and ones that fit loose and slims down to hug the hips and waist are good. Wear pants or skirts that are pleated to bring the eye down. Choose thin materials like cotton, or cotton jersey. One color dressing will also be thinning. Flat shoes are best unless you are short, then wear heels. If your legs are in good shape shorter hem lengths will draw attention away from your top. Rectangular type woman. The rectangular type can accentuate curves by wearing jackets or tops that hug the waist, feminine thick sweaters over skirts or pants. Use patterns in your tops or bottoms to add dimension. Round out the neckline with necklaces, scarves and other accessories, and use shoulder pads. visit: <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://nikhar-e-arab.com/fashionforyou.html">http://nikhar-e-arab.com/fashionforyou.html</a>
