We are about to loose the Hunting of Hogs in the Small game season on the BullCreek WMA effective this season!
I have been in contact with several FWC Staff and SJRWMD staff, I'm not sure we can stop what has been going on for a few years and has been brought to the attention of many people in the last few months thru the Friends of BullCreek when we get the news late like this and all the questions have been asked for hunter!
From what I can Gather, Buggies have been missusing the land of Bullcreek to hunt the hogs, Tearing up all the wetlands and other plants, Quail hunters also use these buggies to hunt Quail (which is still unclear to me why), so to appease those Hunters, it will be necassary to limit buggies to numbered roads and some trails, but discontinue Hog hunting in the small game season on Bull creek because of a few bad hunter on buggies!
The side of this that perturbs me the most is that FOBC didn't contact any other groups to help in this and from what I can gather has created more harm than need be done by not working within the chain of command persay, If the secretary/treasure of the UHF didn't E-mail this new revised Rule changes to all of us, then the UHF wouldn't have even know about it. I hope that from my discussions with the FWC Staff that this will not happen in the future, we cannot fight something like this when One group decides that they have the answers to all hunters problems and the FWC and SJRWMD leaves hunters out of the loop... there are many Assn. and Organizations that have members who hunt these WMAs, why were we not involved?
Whether you hunt this WMA or not, you need to send letters to both SJRWMD and the FWC and ask that this not be allowed to happen! Keep the use of buggies and or ORV on numbered or named roads and all hunters can still hunt hogs and Quail, allowing Quail hunters to use them but eliminate hog hunting in the small game season, WHY?
