Subject: Phil Jones Bass Clinic with Chuck Rainey

I was privileged to attend the Phil Jones Bass Clinic featuring Chuck Rainey in Cafe Jazz, Cardiff on Tuesday 26th September 2006, one of the five venues of Chuck’s UK tourm, hosted by GM Music. Chuck had some wonderful stories to tell, not surprising when you look at his history (check out his website www.chuckrainey.com). The extensive list of well-known names with whom he has toured or recorded reads like a musical "Who's Who", & covers so many different genres including jazz, soul, blues, funk, rock & pop. His playing on a 6-string that he has only had for 2 months was masterful, & he very ably demonstrated the capabilities of PJB bass amplification which is streets ahead of the opposition (but I know that as I've been playing through a PJB rig since June - does anyone want to buy my Trace Elliot stack?)

It was fantastic to meet, hear & talk to a legend!

Many thanks to Phil Jones (great to meet this Welsh exile too!) for bringing Chuck over to the UK, & to the guys fom Synergy Distribution for arranging the tour, & to GM Music for the local arrangements.

Dr Dick "The Bass" Harding.
