Dear Rodrigo,

I really enjoyed reading your essay. I found your ideas very well organized and well written, besides the relevance of what you’ve been writing about. I liked the thoughtful way you introduced, developed and concluded your work. In fact I have only a few comments to offer you. Well done!

5th Paragraph :
Moreover, grammar structures may not have been correctly dealt with in a classroom and it frequently affects the students’ ability to listen to English because they do not recognise what they have learned with (Don’t you think that using “IN ” instead of “WITH”, would be better here?) what is being heard.

7th Paragraph :
“The grammar and lexicon of the text create equations among the slots in a specific instantiation of a schema. The listener’s task in understanding a speaker will involve integrating knowledge from schemata (associated with utterance) and the prepositional (I’M NOT SURE, BUT ISN’T IT PROPOSITIONAL THE CORRECT WORD HERE?) information available”(p.33). (There is a space missing here)

On the whole, I should say that listening activities connected with grammar help students be (WHAT DO YOU THINK OF USING “BECOME BETTER LISTENERS”?)better listeners. Many teachers with no experience of tackling with (I THINK THAT YOU DON’T NEED THE PREPOSITION HERE) these two skills together as presented here may find (IT) hard to get to grips with. Far from being the only solution to student’s difficulties in listening I strongly believe that it is one more available tool to be used and our role as teachers is to help students“ take chances” (ARE YOU CITING SOMEONE? IF YOU’RE NOT, IT WOULD BE BETTER TO REMOVE THE INVERTED COMMAS. OTHERWISE YOU HAVE TO QUOTE THE AUTHOR.) in order to build up their confidence for the listening experiences they will have outside the classroom.

Finally, I reckon that “tackling” and “get to gips with” are quite informal vocabulary choices for an acacemic essay. I’d like to suggest rewriting this sentence in a more formal way, such as : “Many teachers with no experience of approaching these two skills together may find it hard to treat them as presented here.”
I would also consider replacing “tool” with “strategy or procedure”, and “build up” with “broaden, strenghten, or increase”) for the same reason.

I hope you find the suggestions useful. Once more, congratulations on your essay!
Best wishes,

Luis
