Date Posted: 18:15:35 08/17/06 Thu Author Host/IP: 24.84.127.170 Yes, the month of August is only halfway done, and training camps haven't started yet, but the Hockey News has it's 06/07 preview magazine out already. And it has made it's conference picks for this upcoming season. What they say is this: Western Conference 1. Anahiem Ducks 2. Calgary Flames 3. San Jose Sharks 4. Nashville Predators 5. Minnesota Wild 6. Detroit Red Wings 7. Dallas Stars 8. Los Angeles Kings 9. Vancouver Canucks 10. Columbus Blue Jackets 11. Phoenix Coyotes 12. Colorado Avalanche 13. Edmonton Oilers 14. Chicago Blackhawks 15. St. Louis Blues Eastern Conference 1. Ottawa Senators 2. Carolina Hurricanes 3. Buffalo Sabres 4. New York Rangers 5. Tampa Bay Lightning 6. New Jersey Devils 7. Atlanta Thrashers 8. Philadelphia Flyers 9. Montreal Canadiens 10. Pittsburgh Penguins 11. Boston Bruins 12. Toronto Maple Leafs 13. Florida Panthers 14. New York Islanders 15. Washington Capitals The Conference finals would be Calgary vs. Anahiem and Ottawa vs. Buffalo, with the Stanley Cup finals being Calgary vs. Buffalo. They said Calgary would win it all. Now they also pointed out they were quite accurate last year, but the few mistakes they made were huge. They said Buffalo and Nashville would both finish in 13th, but they both finished in 3rd, and said Carolina would finish in 14th but they....well, you know. I personally think they did a bang up job predicting where Ottawa and Toronto would finish. But, I really don't see Atlanta making the playoffs, I can't see Dallas finishing in 7th (or Colorado finishing THAT low, though I think 9th would make more sense for them) and I can't see Anahiem taking the conference, though I think they'll finish up there. Plus, I don't think Minnesota is that good yet, and I can't understand why Pittsburgh would be in 10th riding one good player, yet Washington, who has just as good as a one player, finishes dead last. Anyways, comment on what you think the standings should be, or how good/bad these predictions from the Hockey News are. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
