Because poor Sayid really needs a storyline. He hasn't had hardly anything to do in ages and I need reminders of his hotness.

I'm guessing the "non Oceanic 6" character who's off the island in the future is Michael, and the "stunning and shocking" off-island alliance will be him and someone else. It also might be Walt, if it's set after that funeral in "Through The Looking Glass," since I'm convinced that was Michael's funeral.
