Pirates Advance with 5-2 Win Over Providence

Providence, RI- Ryan Shannon and Zenon Konopka each scored twice and Nathan Marsters made 20 saves to push the Pirates to a 5-2 win in Game 6 of the Atlantic Division Semifinal on Friday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.

In the first period, Pierre Parenteau opened the scoring with a power play goal at the 7:54 mark by banging home a loose rebound out in front of Providence goalie Derek Gustafson. Shane O'Brien and Tim Brent were awarded assists on Parenteau's 2nd goal of the postseason.

The Bruins tied the game just under two minutes later on Eric Nickulas’ 1st goal of the series. While on the power play, Nickulas drilled a slap shot from the left side of the cage past the blocker of Nathan Marsters to tie the game.

The Pirates tacked on four goals in the second period. Geoff Peters started the scoring spree by batting in a bouncing puck on an initial shot from the point by Aaron Rome.

The Pirates added to their lead at the 7:23 mark with a tally off the twig of Zenon Konopka. Konopka swatted a rebound past goalie Derek Gustafson for his team-leading 5th goal of the post season.

Later in the period at the 15:12 mark Ryan Shannon struck shorthanded providing the Pirates with 4-1 lead. Shannon raced to center to pick up the puck from a broken play in the offensive end. Shannon streaked down the length of the ice and tucked the puck under Gustafson's pads.

In the final period, Ryan Shannon tacked on some insurance with a power play goal to extend the Pirates lead to 5-1.

Providence scored late in the period on a power play goal by Jonathan Sigalet to close the scoring as the Pirates claimed the 5-2 win.

Pirates goaltender Nathan Marsters made 20 saves in the win and Providence netminder Derek Gustafson made 24 stops in the loss.

With the win, the Pirates will face either Manchester or Hartford in Atlantic Division Final depending on the winner of their decicive Game 7 on Saturday night in Hartford at 7:05 p.m.
