Subject: Mother Megan's Monotonous Monologue

Personally I think Jessica will be fine if she keeps smoking as long as she keeps it to 10 a day.

Susan, I tried yesterday. I also answered Paul's question. I was hoping someone else would respond on this board or another so I could see if I was thinking his way on parts of the thread.
Susan, I hope you took the holder into the bedroom with you. Centered around the fun yesterday as my girls visited with a group at a fun water park, was a frank discussion of the future.
The discussion ventured from when they would see each other to who, if any, would quit smoking.
My girls both said they would give up cigarettes which surprised even me. Jess said after lunch today, she would no longer smoke until softball ends next May or June. Then she said she will smoke a few packs over the longer holidays. She said that yesterday with 24 hours left to smoke. All of us have been known to extend things as the deadline approaches.
Lisa said she would handle smoking in her way and that she would smoke outside if Jessica really quits. That also said she was making no promises. Jess is 14 and will be a freshman in high school. Lisa is 12 and going into the 7th grade. Both will have fall birthdays.
Jacki, Nell's daughter a year older than Jessica, said she would probably not quit smoking but will give up athletics instead.
Norman, her older brother, said she had great potential in sports and should not give it up. He is an established football and baseball player who graduates this year.
Jerri, Norman's gf and Kendra's oldest, said a lot of girls get tired of sports, especially if they smoke.
Nell said she planned to quit soon after this trip. Kendra said "me too."
But Nell's youngest, who had been promoted to smoking with permission, warned her mother it would be hard to quit. That coming from the mouth of a child a month short of 11. This is a child who rather skillfully sends smoke out of her nose.
Kendra, the other mom, said she has never been addicted to smoking and does not plan to be. She said Jacki was making a mistake if she kept up smoking. Jacki said that decision was already made.
Then Kendra pulled out the sub-varsity football schedule and said she would be with her son Rusty when his team played an early-season game close to us. Actually, the game is in the suburban town where my sister lives.
Rusty, who already had his arm around the smoking Jess, tightened his grip.
I've told you the complicated relationship before but real quick, Nell, my old high school and early college friend, has 4 kids. Her oldest Norman likes Jerri, Kendra's oldest. Kendra's second, Tom, likes Nell's second, Jacki. Rusty, Kendra's third, likes my Jessica and Ned, Nell's third, likes my Lisa. The younger girls did not have dates but both were allowed to smoke like a teen.
We're headed for the final sad visit. They can kiss the water park and fancy motel goodbye but not each other.
