There are so many things to answer. I had a boy say I had steel panties because I wouldn't give in the front seat. I fear as we become adults, our thoughts on smoking leave the adult experimentation thought and go to the thought of being sensual.
But most girls start smoking young when they should not be thinking of giving guys happy pants. Statistics seem to bear out that the fact that girls are seeing the total picture.
Most have their first cigarette around 14 and their first baby around 21. They actually have a head on their shoulders. I hope my girls don't sneak off to do anything but smoke until the proper time.
Ted brought up the fact that Jessica will have a hard time giving up smoking. I say to quit, she has to try. When you try you risk failure. The real question is what comes first to Jessica, her sports or her smoking.
This summer especially, Jessica has put herself in an either/or position as far as smoking. She's no longer a casual smoker who can take it or leave it.
One cigarette can lead to a lot of smoking. She is now comfortable with full flavor cigarettes. She won't be turning down a chance to smoke because the only ones available are full flavor.
Her little sister Lisa is smoking. She is near the addiction point Jessica has reached. Her having cigarettes around will test Jess but Lisa only has Marlboro Lights and other light brands. Given a choice, Jess would rather have a full flavor.
That puts the pressure on me since I smoke Marlboros and was a dismal failure at giving them up.
She has so many friends who smoke and pretty much runs with an older crowd. Still her academic and sports results are good so I'm trying to give Jessica her choices.
She knows there is no longer a time she can have just a few cigarettes and not want one the next morning. Today, Lisa has lit up but conveys the attitude that she could quit smoking at anytime.
For Jess, shortness and not shortness of breath could be her biggest limit in varsity sports.
As for education, she has not ruled out becoming a physicial like her father and grandfather.
