It's a girl for my son and step-daughter and she looks just like me. Mother and daughter are fine. I'm no worse for wear. The baby was born after all the kids got out of school.
All is well. They only had to induce labor, no surgery. It's their first. Like me, the other grandmother has tons of grandchildren. She did not smoke during the 2 hours most of us had to wait. She did go outside one of the times I smoked and said this daughter is her first child to smoke.
An older son has a wife who smokes. While we were outside, this mother and teen daughter, probably 16, shared a cigarette. Beatriz frowned at all the smoking, especially the smoking of some of my underage grandchildren.
We became pretty good friends during the birth process and happiness afterwards. She's not married and about 8 she suggested we slip off to this little place near the hospital. She called ahead.
At Miguel's, Beatriz was greeted like an old friend. She said I would probably like sitting in the bar area since smoking was allowed there. I was thankful for that. The staff already knew about the arrival and had a bottle of wine on ice for us.
Then came a container with 2 cigars. Beatriz offered me one as she took the other. She asked if I ever smoked a cigar before. I said not since last summer in Las Vegas. She said she had never smoked anything but wanted to have one with me since I was a smoker.
It was good. My husband met me at home and noticed that I had smoked a cigar. I told him of this little restaurant, the good wine and the high-quality cigars.
He suggested we buy a box of cigars. I told him we smoked Macanudoes and they are not inexpensive. He said he could not imagine buying a $10 cigar for a teen-ager who had just eaten at McDonald's. I told him I thought $5 or less would cover the cigars by the box and winked as I said nothing but the finest for my grandchildren.
We are to invite some of the inlaws over. I'm not sure Beatriz will want to smoke in front of her relatives, but who knows?
