I'm not sure all saw this question Kimberly asked about smoking in the restroom. Well, here goes.
Way back in the 6th grade, there was not much hope for Rita. As soon as school let out she was headed for the bench, as we called it. The row of wooden fences, each with a back entrance, had one fence insetted with a bench on it.
We could walk home from our middle and elementary schools. I lived two houses past the bench. Rita lived in the next block. Rita was and is a beautiful girl whom I dated my senior year. She's the only girl I ever smoked with. We broke up about a year ago but it was not because she smoked.
Rita impressed me as the good bad girl. She was mostly a good girl in high school after impressing everyone with her badness in middle school. By the end of the 8th grade, I suspect she smoked a pack a day of Marlboros. That was went the administration decided to crack down on a problem they really didn't want to touch -- girls smoking in the restroom.
Rita was the type who could escape detection. When they busted the smokers that year, Rita failed to escape detection. Now, the girls she was caught with that day mostly fell by the wayside.
Rita was a smoker and a student. She graduated from high school with far better grades than me. She went off to the big university where she is already a fraternity sweetheart. She made the dean's list. She still smokes Marlboros.
It's not a good sign when a girl gets caught smoking in the restroom. They really take a dim view of that. My poor little sister does not even take cigarettes to school. She's a junior and will be a top graduate. She may be close to a pack a day smoker but she knows not to test the smoking rule. She only started in September. She has complete smoking freedom at home.
My next sister is a freshman who has gotten taller and is now in the athletic program. She could be on four varsity teams next year. The smoking experiment is behind her.
There's still another sister who has smoked with some of Wilma nieces and nephews but associates with a very fine girl who does not smoke -- Rita's sister.
Sorry to run off at the mouth but what are your memories of smoking in the restroom?
