The weekend was eventful. We went to the game, which we won. My youngest wanted to take Lacy to the game again. My middle son escorted Lee Ann. He got to sit in the back seat with Lacy and Lee Ann. The youngest had to ride in the middle although he got the back seat until we picked up Lee Ann.
As my middle son went to the door, grandmother Darlene waived at us, cigarette in hand. As soon as Lee Ann got in the car, she explained that her grandmother had gone back to smoking and her mother is mad.
Lacy said she heard that from Wanda, cousin of Lee Ann. Lee Ann said she could understand her Aunt Marla minding the smoking but her mother shouldn't mind since she used to smoke.
Lacy allowed that her dad does not care about Laine or anyone going in the backyard but he hates that her mother is going back to smoking.
She told dad she smoked when she was 12 when she lived here before. Then she added it must be something in the water. Both laughed.
I didn't want to smoke in the car with all the kids but I was ready for one when we took a pit stop. As I left the restroom to have a quick smoke, the girls both went into the restroom.
As we got in the car and resumed places, my middle son coughed. My third son looked into the back seat and smiled.
As we approached the game location, Grover and brother emerged with dates Ellen and Cassie, who turns 15 next Friday.
It was not news that Ellen, who is on the softball team, was smoking but Cassie smoking was even news to Lacy. She asked her sister what dad would say. Cassie just shrugged.
Ellen saw a pickup approaching and said that she was glad her younger brother Hank made it.
He was with Laine, Lacy's oldest sister. Laine stepped out of the car and said she hoped the parking lot was a designated smoking area since Hank would not let her smoke in his dad's pickup.
Lacy and Lee Ann wanted to be with the older teens but Cassie suggested they run along. So, we paid their admission to the game.
The ump was just saying play ball and my son, the leadoff batter, was stepping to the plate when Amber, my oldest's gf, and Kim, with mothers arrived.
Amber's mother Linda was quick to go smoke and Kim and her mother Sone-Ree joined her. Amber stayed behind each time. I had to wonder if she was looking good just for us.
When he came home last night my oldest said Amber was giving up smoking. He said Amber did not expect his mother to smoke long, which is her usual method of operation. He said Kim and her mother chain smoked in the car and almost made Amber sick.
The only thing about Amber not smoking is it leaves them with litte in common with most of their friends so they are now single dating. Still, he got in sooner than Laine or Cassie. I won't say I was spying but I could hear the vehicles arriving and doors opening and shutting.
It was only about a minute later that the teen girls were outside smoking a final cigarette of the night. Debbie, their mother, joined them.
On one of the trips to the parking lot, Laine and Cassie said Lacy could come along. She invited Lee Ann, who gladly joined the group.
Coming home, my middle son just allowed Lee Ann to get out the back door and made no attempt to walk her to the door.
We dropped Lacy off at home, drove around the block and went home.
My youngest was soon in Lacy's back yard where the usual suspects, mostly girls gathered.
My middle one sulked most of the day. About 11 last night, Lee Ann called and they had a long talk. Even with the apparent evil weed, she may the lesser of the evils for my middle one.
And, really Lacy can me the sweetest, most polite girl.
