Subject: Carb choice, effecting 604 and blue oval engines

The director of competition at Gresham Motorsports Park recently ran a series of tests comparing the OLM built motors to the GM 604 crate motors. Utilizing their sophisticated segment timing and scoring system, they determined that the GM604 motor with the 500cfm 2bbl carb was equal to the built motor in the corners but was slightly slower down the straights. Replacing the 500cfm with the 390cfm 4bbl kept the cars equal in the turns and also equalized them down the straights. As a result, they have amended their rules to allow the Holley 390cfm 4bbl for the 604 crate engines. Therefore, we are doing the same. As of the next race, July 9th, we are giving drivers with the 604 in their cars the option of running the 500cfm 2bbl or the 390cfm 4bbl. The 390 must remain stock and unaltered. This option is also allowed on the Ford Blue Oval crate motor.
