Subject: Response from the Commish on the scoring error in Week 8.

Let me just state that I feel much worse about this than anyone in this league. It’s my responsibility to make sure that the team that scores the most points in a given week is credited with the win. I make mistakes every week, most of them in an effort to post the updated scores before most people go to bed each night over the 4 ½ month season. Any game that is decided by six points or less, I manually review each box score a second time on the Sunday that ends the week. On January 20th (Week 8) , I did not have the opportunity to do so on the games between Mike&Craig vs Don&Tommy and Jimmy vs Marty&Timmy. Unfortunately there was an error in calculating scores they effected the outcome of a game.

As you can see from the secretive e-mail’s(see prior posting), Mike inquired about the totals from Week 8 yesterday. Why it took 5 weeks, I am not sure, but I believe the most important issue is to get the outcome right. Is it acceptable and fair to Mike&Craig to give them a tie when they actually won the game? I can’t see how an objective person would say, “Mike&Craig you outscored Don&Tommy 143-142 in Week 8, but we have to give you a tie since that’s what the Commissioner had originally.” Thanks for playing. So I should assume that everyone believes the guy in NYC this week that saw his bank statement showed $2,000,000 and then went to the bank to withdraw it (full well knowing it was not his money), should be able to keep it?

I know it’s disappointing to think you have a chance to get in the playoffs and then find out that you are out of contention because if a scoring error, but let me remind everyone, it’s a FANTASY BASKETBALL LEAGUE. It’s for fun. Go tell the parents of someone who just lost a son in Iraq or Afghanistan how you were shortchanged in your Big East Fantasy Basketball league and then see how you feel? There are more important things in life.

I apologize again for my oversight & will immediately begin accepting applications to take over the Commissioner position in both Football & Basketball immediately as I have better things to do than listen to everyone’s complaints to change rules only when they effect them directly. I do feel that the team that scored the most points should win the game and that a statute of limitations on a win should not be relegated to the next Monday. When the playoffs are set, all Weekly totals are official. Getting it right is the most important issue here. We have a set of rules and I have to do my best to enforce them in a fair and equitable manner. If the participants in the league want to go back and strictly uphold the rule that lineups must be in by 5:00pm…etc, I am fine with that since Bob Black did not meet the deadline in Week 11, so he actually should have started Orane Chin over Wellington Smith, so JK is credited with a win over Bob. We don’t want to be a league that is that stringent in enforcing the letter of the law.

I made the mistake & I will take the heat for it, but I do resent the inferences that there they was some type of collusion or dirty pool between Mike & myself. My ability to calculate scores if fine to challenge, my integrity is not.

I’ll be looking for Commissioner applications in my mailbox on Monday.
