Subject: The Commissioner's fearless/worthless preseason predictions.

1. Tom Hamel & Rich Hartnett – The defending champs will have to overcome two huge draft night blunders. First they (actually Tom, as Rich was at the World Series) selected four Forwards. Then to compound that, instead of selecting a third Guard, they chose a second Center in the 8th Round and they already had Kentrell Gransberry (so who needs a backup?). Maybe they have been basking in the light of his 2007 championship for too long? This is a solid team, but must overcome the first two weeks with only two Guards. If they can, they should be a major player in the American Division. If they can’t their season will have been lost in October!
2. Don Brown & Tommy Jaquin – They will enjoy multiple 30 plus nights form Reynolds. Still puzzled that they thought they could snag Paul Harris with the 23rd pick? If Derrick Caracter can stay out of Pitino’s doghouse, he will produce like a Top 15 pick. Solid team even with the presence of Josh Wright.
3. Jim Crawford – This team is the sleeper candidate of the year. Harangody appears to be on the mend quicker than expected and may not miss any action. If Barro can post his 8 points & 6 boards a night, this team could be dangerous. How will Harvey produce with better players around him?
4. Mike Terranova & Craig Quish – Sorry boys, but I am going to name this team the co- preseason favorites(see Ryan Treat below). They have seven quality players & no apparent weakness. It’s a young team outside of Hibbert & Matthews, but they have five others who are all candidates for a breakout season. If two or three step up, they will be a championship contender.
5. Chuck Treat – A season of redemption for Chuck? He went young with three freshman guards and DeJuan Blair, but Chuck has had success with superfrosh before (Carmelo Anthony & Craig Smith were not a bad tandem for Chuck in 2003). Will Hanke come back to form in 2008? If he does, this team will be near the top of the standings.
6. Marty & Timmy – Another team looking to redeem itself from an uncharacteristic 2007 season (they actually had a losing record, hard to believe). They will rely heavily on that elite backcourt, but they did use three of their first four picks on Guards, so they better be quality. Williamson says his knees are healthy, so that’s a big plus. Will Wes Green or Luke Zeller add enough, that is a huge question?
7. Al Crawford & Tom B. – After a 0-13 season and the addition of a General Manager this team has to be better and will be. Their top three selections of James, Harris & Price can match up with anyone. Another team that needs one of their two Centers to produce (Diggs or Joynes). Palocios has never been known as a quick healer and Pitino may just forget about him if he does not get his knee healthy before the season gets going. That would be a big blow to this team. I see James having a huge season with an improved jump shot.
8. Chris Terranova – after another classless/selfish ploy to get out of the draft moments before it started (what else does he have to do on a Sunday night?), he again comes up with a very good team. They key question for him will be production out of Sapp & Ramon. If either steps up along with Thabeet, he will be a contender in what perhaps will be his final season in the BEFBL. Could anybody enjoy the league less than Chris, even when he is winning? His stale act and incessant whining has gotten old.
9. Bob Black & Matt – Super backcourt to go along with Mason, Jr and sleeper frosh Mitchell should keep this team in contention in 2008. N’Diaye needs to meet his potential for this team not to be Center-less all season the way Jimmy was in 2007 with Wes Green.
10. Ryan Treat – Clearly the team to beat in the in the National Division (maybe I am biased since he took Sam Young & Corey Chandler right in front of me, but that’s good work on his part). Brain Laing as the 10th overall pick? He was the leading returning fantasy scorer from last year. What gives? Draelon Burns in the 4th round? He should be DePaul’s #1 gun. Davis & Coker are promising frosh Centers and they should leave the other five teams in this division fighting for the remaining playoff spot.
11. JK – Time will tell with this team you need a pronunciation guide to talk about.
12. Charlie Gregg - Nice job drafting his team while in transit by cell phone. Padgett is overdue for a solid consistent season. Kurz is perhaps the most underrated guy in the league or is Jonathan Wallace? Charlie has both along with Jamar Nutcase, who is certainly not shy in letting the three-ball go, problem is he rarely makes them. The best team on paper in 2007 didn’t even make the playoffs, this team could.

Best Guards – Marty & Timmy – Devendorf, Fields & McAlarney.
Best Forwards – Chuck Treat – T. Williams, McDermott & D. Blair.
Best Centers – Hamel & Hartnett - Kentrell Gransberry & Antonio Pena. Gransberry on the roster, enough said.
