yeah we can go the paid route if you want. I went with this single page format for its simplicity for those family members that are not very computer savvy. I do wish it could host pictures and video without having to link to 3rd party host (photobucket) but this board is about as easy as it gets. Click and post and you dont have to navigate through different "forums" to find the post you just made or want to follow, its all on one page. BTW i would refrain from posting your email out in the open like that because some spambot will pick it up real quick and before you know it you will be getting all kinds of junk mail at your work email addy. I definitely support some sort of centralized list of email addresses and phone numbers but it has to be somewhat private and maybe require a user name and password to access. We can actually set up password requirement for this board if we want but i figured it would make things harder for those less technology savvy. if you have any ideas, send me some links to the various hosts and I'll check them out. as far as posting pictures i am currently using Photobucket.com and using the HTML code that the site automatically generates to imbed the pictures into my post. there really isnt much chance that it can be deleted because i am pretty much the only one that currently has admin rights to this site at the moment (although i can give the pw to you too). i also admin the board and delete any spam advertisements that may pop up on here. its kind of inevitible no matter what format you use.

The idea of a central e-mail database that can be updated is a great idea (and I agree it should be password protected to provide some protection) even if it is a simple password.

Photobucket is pretty easy-- even I can do it- but it also depends upon photobucket staying around for a while.

If there are multiple pages it might require more computer savvy- which may eliminate users- but as it stands- to wade through everything from the past takes a lot of time. A few bucks a month might be worth it to have some convenience.

I can modify this forum to be password required. as far as wading through old stuff, the new and currently posted on thread automatically stay at the top so that should be too much of an issue.

I've built a lot of pay type forums for others for car racing stuff and there is a lot to choose from out there but i picked this type for the family board specifically for its one page simplicity.

let me know if you would like to try this board as password protected and then we can openly post our email and IM s/n's on here without fear of spambots. In fact I can probably post a list of email addresses at the top of the page as a sticky.

come to think of it-- creating another barrier to entry for a site that is barely travelled may not be a good idea- it would discourage traffic from family because they would have to call someone for the password. - we just need to get more people to use it and have it as a favorite- that way when one person is pretty busy-- there is still new material (and the info gets disseminated more efficiently)-- if it is just one person-- then there is no point in the site. This would be good to keep Hirokazu in the loop as well. --Someone should let Hirokazu know about the site. He is pretty tech savvy

I think my mom said he was asking about it and that she gave him the URL for it.

yes i agree on not making it more difficult to access... Now you know why i made the board as simple as possible. I also figured you go to your favorites and click and the first thing you see is a big picture of the family, that should catch peoples eye. I also post as many pictures as possible as i think thats what makes a website the most interesting and keeps people coming back to look.
