Here's some pics of us out at the desert on Thanksgiving '04. This was our first trip out with our Carson Funrunner Toyhauler.

this is my 1999 Kawasaki KX 250 dirtbike that I sold about a year ago so I could get an ATV. I really miss riding on 2 wheels. I kinda regrets selling it but this bike was so fast it was starting to get hard to hang on to it.

Clay has his own quad so we were teaching him how to ride. This pic is of Jenny (still prego with Claire) riding Clay around the camp

Clay doing his second favorite thing... digging in the dirt

Megan riding Clay's quad. It's a 50cc bike with only 1 gear so no shifting. I think it has 4 horsepower and a top speed of 15mph.

we mostly rode clay around on his quad on this trip but on the next one he took off on his own and picked it up real fast. i had to keep telling him NOT to ride up the side of that steep dune. even with me on the back while riding along the ridge of a hill he would suddenly hang a left turn and go down it. Pretty steep. BTW to this day we still haven't taught him how to use the brake. anyway, I took him riding in Otay Mesa a while ago and he did real well. There was a 7 and 8 y/o boy and girl there and Clay was literally riding circles around them.

I remember being told specifically NOT to up a specific dune-- and somehow I interpreted that to mean that I SHOULD go up the dune. Kids look cute with the hats...

How much wuz the ATV for Clay?? Him not knowing how to use the brakes reminds me of a friend who took off on my minibike in my back yard and crashed cause he could'nt figure out that the brakes on the motorcycle are in the same place as the brakes on a bicycle.--course he was in high school.

Clay's quad was 800 bucks used. i messed up because these days you can get a NEW one for 800 from Pep Dudes. Clay's was kinda beat on when we got it and I've had to spend a lot of time and $$$ on maintenance to get it to be reliable. These Chinese made bikes and generators etc on the market lately I imagine are really putting a dent in the Japanese bike sales. an equivalent Honda,Kawasaki,Yamaha or Suzuki runs about 2000 +.

I remember my mom being mad because i was riding ur minibike in ur back yard and the throttle hung and i launched it (and myself) into a tree. Got a nice little road rash on my chest and shoulder that summer.

I found a pic of me on Yuji's bike at the Kawasaki test track back in the late 70's or early 80's I'll scan and post it as soon as I get a chance.

BTW i was working on his quad today and found out how to remove the 15mph governor. it now goes 20mph +. I also did a quick port job on the intake manifold and installed the silencer off my old KX 125 on it so it should be able to make bout 4.5-5hp now. it should be enough to pop some wheelies (heheh). good thing it has a remote control kill switch on it so i can just hit the clicker and shut the motor off from 100 feet away.
