Barbara I understand the need there was for Sirus &/or paid radio & please don't misunderstand me because I don't begrudge anyone who took a subscription. At the time I tended to seek music on the computer & then went to CD's in the car. I think I just went this way because a lot of that stuff was all ready in place with the computer being right here, I had many CD's & then of course we had just gotten some of the music channels on Cablevision too. I'm very eclectic in my music tastes & truly I could go from country to rock in a heart beat & then branch into many other genre's too so I just stayed with what was already in place for me here. Even with that I still missed WCBS though because there was no DJ's & like you I grew up with radio & while it was the the early 70's I can remember getting the transistor for Christmas. I was 10 as well & have vivid memories of my older brother explaining the difference between AM & FM radio and of course because of my age I was addicted to the bubble gum stuff on WABC :) He was so frustrated with me. I remember my parents yelling at me because I kept wearing out the batteries in the transistor (& they had to keep replacing them) because I'd put the radio under my pillow & listen to it as I fell asleep at night. As the stero situation improved & I always had records playing & the radio going it was in 1973 that we were preparing for the 7th grade "50's dance" & my mother taught me & the girls all how to dance. There were many many fond memories & I understand your feeling you'd lost a family member the night the music died :(. and I certainly understand you reaching out to Sirus radio & many did the same because that's where the DJ's went.

I don't begrudge others the way they feel & I don't think they need to stay silent either, but to come here & complain or to bash the thing we're celebrating just puts a damper on our good time or it kinda takes the air out of the sails you know? If someone's grown up with music from the 70's &/or the 80's & people are saying it's "all crap" it's isn't exactly a uplifting comment & it's a bashing of something they actually identify with personally just like we identify with the music of the 50's & 60's. It's just hurtful & really just uncalled for. I don't have any problems with people who have Sirus Radio & frankly I don't think there's going to be anything anyone can do to stop the eventual change over that I think is inevitable. It's kind of sad yes but life won't end & it's just the way things are. It's like my mothers nostalgia for the radio programs she *listened to* as a kid. Many of them continued after the beginning of TV but now they're all gone. I'm sure she'd love a program that's retro like that but the probablility of it? Does she long for those days when? Of course because that's what life was to her & what she identified with during her girlhood. However if they came up with a station that decided to redo the radio program "only the shadow knows" & mother was all excited I wouldn't start bashing it cause it's not exactly the same. I wouldn't sit here telling her I'm gonna stay with TV because that programs gonna stink. Know what I mean?
It's been great the past day & a half to be able to turn on WCBS again & there are so many great songs! I'm sure there's a lot of tweaking to be done and I'm not crazy about every single song either, but I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth either. For the most part I've sat here thinking most all the songs played have been pretty good & they've left me dancing around when I'm doing housework & such things.

Oh & thanks for sharing your memories it's so much fun when people do that. We too have attented the Meadowlands concerts & they're always so much fun. Now my mother isn't able to dance any longer & so if I could just teach one of my kids to jitterbug life would be even better. I've gotten some odd looks from them all dancing with a towel hooked through the fridge door. LOL
