Roe, I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but oldies on the New York airwaves are gone forever. There is no way Dan Mason is going to bring back oldies in any form on 92.3 or 101.1, despite the revival of KFRC, which recently replaced FREE-FM in San Francisco.

What listeners want has no bearing on programming decisions. I'm being repetitive, but in New York, programming decisions are made for the benefit of Wall St bankers and Madison Ave ad agencies and they want young listeners who buy on impulse. Never mind a 50-something baby boomer with money to spend. As far as advertisers and bankers are concerned, baby boomers should either drop dead or move away from New York. As a result, New York has the WORST music stations in the country.

What's even crazier is that this "desirable" audience is listening to their iPods more than to FM radio. This "desired" audience isn't tuning in!

You are correct, everyone can't afford satellite and others are unwilling to pay for what they've gotten for free for over 40 years. None of this changes current reality. The only way to get our music is via satellite radio or the Internet. It may not be right or fair, but as Walter Cronkite used to say, "That's the way it is!"

I made my choice to pay for satellite radio and I'm fine with it.
