VoyForums Announcement: Programming and providing support for this service has been a labor of love since 1997. We are one of the few services online who values our users' privacy, and have never sold your information. We have even fought hard to defend your privacy in legal cases; however, we've done it with almost no financial support -- paying out of pocket to continue providing the service. Due to the issues imposed on us by advertisers, we also stopped hosting most ads on the forums many years ago. We hope you appreciate our efforts.

We greatly apologize for the recent downtime. The previous archive problem would have, had we allowed it to continue, caused massive loss of messages should any new posts have been allowed on the system. Thankfully the problem has been fixed and tested and now everything seems to be functioning properly. We advise all forum owners to check their archives because any rotations that occurred after the update, prior to our downtime, probably resulted in the rotation of just a few messages into each archive, and therefore many messages rotated completely out of storage.

We secondly advise those of you who are aware of problems in their forum messages to run the "Backup & Rebuild Messages" option in the Owner Login area. This will restore all messages that are currently in your database and re-distribute them through the archives -- it will not bring back messages which have already been rotated out.

Again, we apologize for the problems. As you may be aware, it is few and far inbetween our downtimes, and only periodically is there any loss of data due to bugs. VoyForums software is, largely because of user-request, an extremely fast-growing work, and we provide all our labor
free-of-charge to our users.

We understand the importance of being up during the recent weeks, so we worked hard to fix the bugs found (which were missed by both us and the few people who aided us in beta testing before we placed the software online). As many of you may also know, we even delayed the release of the
software days, if not a couple weeks, in the hopes that users would find bugs in the beta version, but we received no reports and, after a while could not delay placing the version online any longer.

Additionally, as I noted in my post two days ago (regarding the archive bug's fix, which required more work than expected) we made a backup of forums immediately prior to installing the new version online; however, without extremely good reason to do so, we will not be attempting to
restore old messages from backups. Please let us know if you think you have sufficient reason to restore some messages -- we have always recommended that our users make backups of their own messages onto their own machines. The easiest way to do this is to switch your forum to Verbose mode, view your forum and save the page to disk, then switch your forum back to your regular forum format.

As usual, if any new bugs are found, please post about it in the Bugs Forum so we can work on fixing it immediately.

We expect no more downtime and are now working on some other bugs of less-priority.

Thank you, we appreciate your understanding and support.

Sincerely,
VoyForums Staff
