Ms. United States Woman, Dawn Basham will spend her reign working with charities that honor and protect children. Having survived poverty, neglect, violence, bullying, and an abduction during her earliest years, Dawn has dedicated her adult life to improving the lives of children. She is grateful to use her crown to reach children and families on a national level.
She is a spokesperson for Child Lures Prevention, an organization whose mission is educating children on lures used by sexual predators. “Lures were used on me as a young child, and by God’s grace I survived my experiences. I was the exception.” Dawn is devoted to preventing her history from happening to others. She will tour schools throughout her state and the country educating students on how to recognize common lures, as well as to trust and follow their instincts about people and situations.
Dawn is also a facilitator for the National Conference for Community and Justice which promotes understanding and respect among all races, religions and cultures through advocacy, conflict resolution and education.
When Ms. United States Woman isn't at schools, you'll find her performing at South Florida's local hotspots, or for weddings and special events. She is known for her soulful ballads, but loves all types of music from disco to country.
Her favorite travel destination is Sicily where she recently discovered her living ancestors, and was embraced as a long lost daughter! The experience inspired her to learn Italian to be closer to her new relatives.
