Subject: Cat licking fur off sides

My little cat has been licking and chewing at both her sides and now she has two large bald spots. Our vet tried her with a herbal remedy, but this proved useless. There are no open sores or scabs on these areas - only a slight dark line here and there. She is eating and drinking well and appears otherwise to be acting quite normally. This has been going on for several months now and I would really like to find out what is causing it. Any suggestions, anyone? Thanks.
