30th Anniversary Show to Honor Polka Artists & Young Rising Stars

The Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) is adding two new music categories at the 2010 Music Awards Show. The “Best Polka Artist” and the “Best Rising Star” will be honored ,along with 33 other award categories, at the 30th anniversary event, Monday, April 12, 7 p.m., at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center, 400 W. College Ave., in Appleton, Wis.

“As an organization that recognizes the achievements of Wisconsin musicians, we felt it was important to distinguish Polka as a genre very unique to this state,” says Lance Shellman, president of WAMI. The evening’s festivities will begin at 6 p.m. with a pre-party at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center. At 6:30 p.m., the doors will open to the theater, for the 7 p.m. show. The Awards Show will be followed by an after-party next door at Mill Creek, last year’s recipient of a WAMI award for “best music venue.”
