First of all, do you give your fish enough food? How often do you feed them? Canibalism is not uncommon among fish, especially if food is not sufficiently provided/given and if those other fish are the aggressive type.
The amount of food required also depends on they type of fish that you have. But, in general, they should be fed just enough for them to finish in max. 5 mins. But you can feed them every few hours (2-4 hrs).

If the dead fish WAS pregnant, you needed to separate it from the others, either move it into another tank, or buy a breeding net.

Hope that helps.
