So, the movers are coming Friday morning and packing all of my stuff up and putting it in storage. The new owners take possession of my flat on Monday. I'm hanging around to (a) see friends at the weekend and say goodbye and (b) to formally exchange with the new owners on Monday.

Should I

(a) get a sleeping bag and stay in my empty flat for the weekend? It will be weird, and potentially really depressing, but it will also be my last chance to sleep in my own home and say goodbye to the place, and I can listen to music and play DVDs on my laptop. It will also be cheaper.

Or

(b) just check into a hotel and treat myself? That could be fun, but could also be hella weird, being in a hotel in a city that's been my home for quite some time and in which I do still own an (albeit empty) flat.

Thoughts?

At first I immediately thought you should treat yourself, go to a hotel and try to relax but on reflection I'm thinking maybe I was a bit hasty with that view, I can understand you wanting to stay in your place until the last minute and I suppose if you are out and about visiting your friends you won't be there all the time will you? If you did go to a hotel it would distract you I suppose and you would certainly be more comfortable but all the same I think if it were me I would stay and make myself as comfortable as possible, it's only a couple of days after all and as you say you can keep yourself entertained too.

try takeout chinese and a sleeping bag for at least one night...

if it's sucktastic...you can do the hotel thing.

i've moved close to 20 times...and i can say because of my need to nest and make my home my home...even if it's only temporary...i get very attached to each place.

It's the sleeping bag and the empty flat. At least for tonight. If it's horrible I'll head for a hotel tomorrow!
