That festival has a hella lot of stages! With fun names.

I'm still getting un-jet-lagged. Today I went to the bank, got my sunglasses fixed, met a friend in town for a good round of gossip and chitchat and therapy, and then I bought a new ring. Tonight I foresee organizing all our vacation photos which is turning out to be a bigger project than I though. :-/

Darren, je suis enormement jalouse! Are you speaking French there on the job? Have you been out drinking in the Quartier Latin yet? I'll be waiting for those photos!

I speak enough to get by. I'm hoping that it will improve drastically over the next few months. Everyone in the office speaks English anyway, as it's a very multinational office: French, British, Italian and Swiss.

I haven't been out drinking in earnest yet, as there's a lot of work to get done, and it is difficult work. But I did have dinner last night in the Jardin du Palais-Royal: lamb tagine with olives, lemons and onions with cous cous. My Parisian friends are very snooty about the Quartier Latin; they say only tourists and American students go out there and the prices reflect that (i.e. let's rip off the stupid foreigners). We tend to go out round here: the Marais, Oberkampf, etc.

If you're interested, this is where I live:

This is where I work:

It's about a ten minute walk between the two.

The street view that comes up is actually Ave de l'Opéra which is very close to where I am. I am quite literally living in a garret of the Palais-Royal. I'll post pictures soon. I was going to take a bunch this morning but I overslept a little and had to head straight into work.

doesn't sound as if you've had a minute since you got there!

Look forward to the pics

I can make myself understood and I always try to speak as much French as possible but it's hard to get the hang of the language when the natives reply in English! *sigh*

Your Parisian friends are probably right about the Quartier Latin... but I let myself get ripped off each time I'm there, it's just such a charming area. Or am I confusing it with St. Germain?

You live near such a cool area, that's awesome. The only cooler thing would be living directly on one of the islands, I love those.

I agree that St Germain is beautiful, as is most of the left bank. It just wouldn't be my first choice to go out drinking there in the evening. It's lovely during the day. But there are much cooler bars and restaurants north of the river.
