Happy retirement Mr. Rauch! Don't know if you'll remember me, but, I graduated from 115 in 86. Joseph Grasso. Very fond memories of you, P.S.115 & Canarsie in general. Such a wonderful time. And a great place to grow up. I remember you used to have a big, bushy blonde mustache. There was a big italian kid in our class, Buddy. You used to bet him a dollar on the various games we played in class. If he lost he had to clean your car :)
One of my fondest memories was when we used to play spelling baseball. Or some variation on the game. We all took turns spelling different words to see who the winner was. I'll never forget the time you asked me to spell spaghetti. Being a pretty good speller, I got it right. You were shocked. The look on your face boy.
Also, there was the time when all the students had to get a routine dental check-up for school purposes. You said whoever completes all of the check-ups first(boys or girls), will get a week with no homework. I was the last guy not to get an exam. Same with one of the girls. I never told you, but, I snuck out at lunchtime in the schoolyard & ran to my family dentist on Rockaway Pkwy. for the quickest check-up I ever got in my life :) And...we had no homework for a week. The boys won.
I am now approaching 31 years old. I am an actor/filmmaker/salesman. Lived in Manhattan for many years, & now reside in New Jersey. Thank you for making such indelable memories for me at an innocent time in my life. It's true what they say; teachers really do guide the young. Drop me a line if you get the chance. And most importantly, enjoy your retirement!
