PROS:

*You don't have to pay the gas or eletric bill.

*Safest place to live in East Brooklyn.

*Nice park-like atmosphere with all the trees and grass.

*There is a little strip mall nearby and a bigger mall on the next exit.

*Your child have a larger selection of zone high schools to choose from after they finish junior hs.

*Big spacious rooms compared to the other apartments in NYC.

CONS:

*The rent has been increasing steadily the last couple of years.

*Calling it the safest place to live in East Brooklyn isn't
exactly a compliment.

*inconvenient to get into the city. It takes at *least* 1 hr to get there by public transportation.

*The elementary school (PS 346) in Starrett was recently in the news about all the rats in the school.

*Starrett City is a former shell of itself. The best time to live in Starrett City was back in the mid 80's. Crimes were much lower and everywhere in Starrett was much cleaner. Don't take this the wrong way, but people from the other projects began moving into Starrett because they thought it was safer. Ironically, they bought with them the very elements that made the projects bad and unsafe. Starrett City tried to put a stop to the bad seeds that were renting their apartments. They decided to limit the amount of Section H8 users from renting in Starrett and gave the apartments to people who can actually afford to pay the rent, Those who don't rely on the government paying most of the bill.
But it is too late. Starrett City has never been the same.

Sometimes when friends drive by Starrett City, they are amazed by how lovely the scenary look. It is beautiful...but back then it was better and safer. No condoms in the grass, broken glass and such. I personally would move if I could. Most of my other friends have already moved long ago to better parts of Queens, Long Island and Staten Island. If you are someone already living in a bad neighborhood or no where to live, then this would be a step-up. Hope I help you make your decision. Bye.
