Once they gain a strong enough hold on a world, they simply suffocate everything around them. Anything they can't be rid of, they take as their own. They have a scream that drives most creatures mad. It takes them a very long time to reproduce, so killing even one can stop their progression for ages. Most choose to wipe them out entirely rather than risk the lives and lands of their ancestors.
