The books by Ayers, Johnson, and Joiner pretty much cover the same things and one is no better or worse than the other, though Joiner's book does go more into the naval aspect of the campaign. So, no particular order of reading, but they are all three good reads and informative though occassionaly looking at things from different perspectives. Petty's letters are a great source for the mind-set of a Trans-Mississippi soldier, and Taylor's own book is the same for his way of thinking on the entire war. Back to your original question; any one of the first three on the reading list would suffice.
