Subject: Maintaining First Person

There has been some interesting comments regarding maintaining first person over on the OTB. I think this would be a good place to sound off on the subject. My opinion is that I hope first person is maintained. I have been disappointed on this one before, so I am prepared to be disappointed again. I will attempt to maintain first person. I am good at it. Some are not. If mess mates want to talk modern stuff around the fire, that is their business. If they want to do it with everyone, I think that is wrong. If you can't refrain from talking about modern things, just don't talk. First person spreads when used. So does modern talk. I hope that the rigors of the march will help guide the conversation to bitching and moaning, and not "I wish I had my cell phone." I will say this, I do not want to see a camera pulled out of a haversack. I was schooled by those that believed such things should not happen. We should respect what we are trying to recreate, and that means not bringing our modern things, thoughts, talk to the event. I do have high expectations. I hope I am not disappointed. The thoughts of others on this subject are appreciated.
