This may be heresy and I might become the target of a chorus of authenticity-minded curses, but having seen a depressed man abandon the BGR march early due to a blown-out sole on his brogans, I have since started carrying a little roll of black electricians tape in my meds and shoe lace poke sack. If the athletes can tape all over their shoes to get through a game, it should work in an emergency in the Kisatchi. And like Fred said, after an hour everything will covered in dust or mud, especially shoes.
