I saw people at BGR that didn't heed the call to be in shape. I saw them hauled off in the back of a truck. I didn't see the ones flown out by helicopter, but that happen also. I can't tell anyone how to get into shape for the event. But as one who has humped a pack for a long time, I can tell you wanting to do it won't get a fellow through. It helps, but it doesn't make up for being in physcial shape to do so. Kisatchie is a friendly place to me. It is a rugged place and isolated and for folks thinking Louisiana is flat, it certainly isn't flat! Six weeks out and if you have only thought about getting into shape, you better start tomorrow. Five days of marching, skirmishing, eating poorly, sleeping little, double quicking will bite into you. Be prepared mentally too. Don't let tired legs whip you. Trust your mess mates. Help them and they will help you. For those that made BGR, they know this. For those that didn't, all I can say is you won't ever forget it.
