There are plenty of contestants every year who are in the top five more than five times before they receive a title. Three years ago there was a girl who was first alternate more times than I can count but she never was the winner that year. Mia earned a respectable rank of 1st alternate. She was obviously liked by the judges. The other three in the top five were also in the consideration for the title. It wasn't their win last night. So what. Lots of strong contestants have shared that experience again and again. Not winning happens to everyone if you compete long enough. The "winner" should be allowed the joy of winning and the "not the winner" and their fans should just move on to the next opportunity.

Prelims hone your skills. The girl that wins first time out isn't really doing herself any favors, because she hasn't discovered how to handle all those things that can go wrong. Mi'a will win a prelim. She's gorgeous and has displayed a wonderful track record on a national pageant level. Her talent may not be serving her well. Her next director will have the opportunity to work with her on that.
