Subject: Do a food drive. Work with a local grocery store to set up a table outside. Get flyers out locally for a couple weeks prior, windsheilds, local stores, neighbors. Set up boxes to dump the non pershibles in. Call the newspaper and get them to advertise and take pics. That will easily do 8 hours.
In reply to: 's message, "Help - my son needs to do 8 hours of community service - we talked together about doing a pageant for a very small fee plus donations to a charity of his choice (of baby items, can foods etc.) what do you think? He's too young for mission trips etc. Or can you help with other ideas?" on 19:31:48 06/08/06 Thu

  • If you have a park nearby such as a state park you can go to the ranger and see what he/she needs done. My son volunteers at a local park pick up garbage and doing some small landscaping jobs. My son is 9 and he does it to help get credit for scholarships to various camps. It is a great way to teach your child to give back and not just take.:) (NT) -- No name, 10:56:18 06/09/06 Fri
  • PS... Be sure to stay with your child while doing volunteer work....remember people who have broken the law are some times doing community service at these places too. Also he can help work at a local food pantry (even small towns have them) (NT) -- No name, 10:59:18 06/09/06 Fri
