In reply to: Rick 's message, "A list of death rays in Flash Gordon trilogy" on 04:47:57 01/17/11 Mon

There are rayguns galore in this trilogy, small, large, some Zarkov's, some by Ming, some from Ming's subjects/enemies in kingdoms on Mongo, and Queen Azura on Mars.

The following represents what I recall from viewings/notes, I might have left some out...if you recall them or note corrections, please indicate.

Zarkov's rays....more or less

a)His ray to keep Vultan's Sky City aloft..it started to lean owing to mutiny instigated by FG in the furnace room earlier. The city was leveled.

b)FG winds up getting punished in Vultan's "static room"..and nearly electrocuted. He is spared though and Zarkov restores him by some means in the "electronic stimulator"...(rays?? dunno, maybe of some sort).

c)Zarkov restores FGs memory from his being drugged by Princess Aura and the High Priest earlier. The apparatus used by the good doctor may involve rays.

d)Zarkov saves FG making him invisible as he is awaiting execution by firing squad in a lab near Zarkov and friends. Flash disappears, and creates some chaos before his choke hold on Ming's throat...he allows him to live though.

e)On Mars, Zarkov creates a paralyzer gun, especially wanted by Ming.

f)Zarkov was able to make spaceships invisible, as evidenced in 1940s FGCTU.

This listing above of Zarkov's rays is not necessarily all inclusive.

------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------

The Others had rays too...on Mongo, Ming and his foes there, also on Mars. Some examples:

1)We see Ming's ship shoot some type of charge or perhaps rays on the two monsters near Zarkov's ship as they first land on Mongo.

2)We see rayguns, various types.

3)Before Ming's wedding ceremony to Dale, she is put under a hypnotic spell with a device which likely involves rays.

4)We find Ming apparently keeps King Kala's underwater city in check where it is, and Ming saves it from destruction by using a ray to allow it to rise to the surface.

5)Barin uses some type of resisto-ray to protect his ship from heat, but it seems to last only so long.

6)Near the beginning of FGTTM, Azura sends a couple of her men to earth on a light beam (ray?)to implant a device to withdraw nitron from the earth. The martian pair sacrifice themselves for the cause.

7)The light bridge on Mars must be some sort of a ray.

8)The nitron lamp must be or contains some form of rays.

8)In FGCTU serial of 1940, Zarkov interacts with scientists on Mongo and there is much talk of various rays (many evil WMD types)discussed, and how to possibly counteract them.
----------------------------------------------------------
Well, that's about it for now; again, if you have more you can recall, let's hear 'em. They'll keep in the archives for reference, quizzes, etc.

You forgot "The Destroying Ray" that was showcased in FGCTU. Seen in chapter 4 and the recap of chapter 5 in the torture room (that was used in "Tower of London"). The ink that was superimposed on the film for the ray was very good.
