Subject: Review of VCI 'Buck Rogers' 70th Ann. Edition (2009)

I had the pleasure of playing back disc one which contains the film on my new 42" plasma tv by Sanyo. The video image and sound is excellent. The music tracks are crystal clear all thorughout the film. Disc two contains a good amount of extras. VCI did a great job with the remaster and it opens up with the spinning Universal globe with Jimmy McHugh's theme cue (which was not present in the 2000 edition). Buster would be happy.

Question...I've an old VHS and 2 VCI older dvds of BR. They're ok I guess for the 16mm prints they were taken from on the older TVs I have. Is the new remastered one close captioned? Or subtitled? It seems Image and some oldies outfits don't always bother to close caption. I bought a FG trilogy last year claimed to be cc...it was not. I kept it since it was on sale, too costly to return and a hassle. I have seen BR/FG often enough to almost have 'em memorized, well, not really, but as long as pix quality is reasonable, its usually ok by me. Is this new one, supposedly from 35mm print cc?

Sorry, there are no subtitles or close captions. I guess they don't want to bother for whatever reasons. The prints are 35mm interpositives they got out of storage that are in very good shape and digitally remastered. The audio source tracks are clean. You won't hear that buzzing sound that the older VCI edition has in CH 5.
