Subject: Buck Rogers DVD Info (2009)

VCI Entertainment released the 70th anniversary edition DVD of Buck Rogers on November 3, 2009. They located 35mm interpositives and audio source tracks that were in excellent condition and they were digitally remastered. The results are truly impressive and it doesn't get any better than this. The second disc contains a rare 1933 short; Buck Rogers and the Tiger Men from Mars and three video features; The History of Buck Rogers by Clifford Weimer, Buster Crabbe: The All-American Hero, video of the 80th Anniversary Buck Rogers Panel at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2009, Episodes 1 & 2 of the Buck Rogers Radio Show, liner notes by author Hank Davies, a photo gallery and the original theatrical trailer.

Film Rating: A+ (Video/Audio/Extras):

Disc Rating: A+/A+/A+

Specifications and Features:

241 minutes, NR, B&W, full-frame (1.33:1), single sided, RSDL dual-layered (layer switch at 1:28:10 time mark in chapter 5), plastic keep case packaging, animated film-themed menu screens, chapter access (12 chapters), languages: English (Dolby Digital 1.0 mono), subtitles; none, extras; as noted above, region 0.

Gee, you know, this is not a cheap dvd, at about $27. One would think that at this price, and with the various extras, they would at least close caption or sub-title the thing. FG has world wide appeal, and I would think similar, though perhaps to a lesser degree for BR. I find it unacceptable that they fail to add this. I have seen a growing number of complaints re Flash Gordon dvds (and others)without close captioning/sub-titles....guess we can add this new pricey Buck Rogers dvd to the list. Too bad.
