Subject: Modern Universal FG/BR Pop Quiz

It's been awhile since we talked about Universal's 1980 Flash Gordon, and dunno if we ever yakked about Gil Gerard's 1979 Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Perhaps it's time. Ok, maybe human interest/bonding story first--perhaps you experienced similar. Officer Torch's space cadet son, in following father's footsteps, enjoyed science fiction. Some biggie movie/shows at the time: Star Wars, The Black Hole, Battlestar Gallactica, Star Trek, others, Various Arcade/Atari space games and the like, plus the 1980 FG movie, 1979 BR movie followed by an hour a week TV series...WOW! Yes..we became modern space cadets, I guess. Did I mention costly toys and rolls of quarters?

OK..so this Buck Rogers movie comes out, and Dad seems to like this Wilma a lot...so you watch with interest at the series on TV, finding Princess Ardella intoxicating as well, but excercise restraint since nearby Mrs. Torch is not oblivious to your attention. In any case, weeks go by, and lo! Who do you see on that show? Buster Crabbe! Can you guys elaborate?...on Buster Crabbe's appearance of course.

Change gears....a fun flick..1980s colorful Flash Gordon movie...General Kala gives the order to open fire, all weapons, on returning war rocket Ajax. Why did she make that decision. Also, did the nose spear from rocket Ajax destroy Ming when it pierced thru him? Your thoughts.

Anwers

a) Buster Crabbe had a cameo as "Brigadier Gordon" in 1979 "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" TV series. He was in 1st season, Episode 3. His character came out of retirement due to shortage of pilots. He shot down enemy craft targeting Buck Rogers (Gil Gerard).

b) In 1980 FG movie, Gen. Kala was informed of no communications with war rocket Ajax (FG was at its controls heading for Ming's). When she also heard Ajax was not on assigned flight path for the day, she gave order to open fire.
At end of this movie, despite ship running thru Ming, and his seeming demise, we hear a laugh and are left with impression he's still around.
