What David sang: Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love."
How he sounded: In tune, like a cross between Harry Connick Jr. and Bill Murray's lounge singer on

"Saturday Night Live."
How he looked: Good enough to last a few rounds. He needs to incorporate something other than black into

his wardrobe, though. David's dancing, awkward and distracting, was another story. Dean Martin never

would have moved like that; he would have spilled his drink. David's smirk also conveyed a sense of

insincerity and an unwillingness to take things seriously. And he needs to follow fellow contestant

Ace's lead and play to the camera, not the studio audience. While the studio audience might applaud,

it's the people at home watching who actually vote.
Simon said: "I have a feeling the audience at home will like you."
Paula said: "You carried on with who you are. You have charisma."
Randy said: "It was terrible. I felt we were back at auditions. You showed no originality."
Who stood out: Ace (the hottie), Elliot (the voice), Kevin (the lovable nerd) and Taylor (the one with

soul and silver hair).
Who we thought would be kicked off: Patrick (zero personality and pitch problems) and Bobby (dude, no

one sings Manilow on "Idol" unless he has to!).
Who was kicked off: Bobby and Patrick.
What David needs to do next: Select music that suits his voice and personality. Jamie Cullum -- whose CD

Radford just bought -- has eked out a career recording American songbook standards. Rod Stewart is even

in on the act. With material he's comfortable with, David could melt hearts. May we suggest a jazzy

version of Jule Styne's "Just in Time"? Fashionwise, he should go with smart, tailored suits and ties.

It's working for Michael Buble.
