Subject: Hello! I am new at taling photo's and would love any helpful tips. Like wqhen is the best time of day to get a clear shot? (no shadows, light in eyes etc) Is it better when it is overcast or sunny? How do you stop a child from squinting eyes? Should the sun be behind you or in front of photographer? Thanks so much!! -- No name, 08:45:46 07/12/06 Wed [9]

Take your photos late in the day when the sun is not high in the sky. This will prevent the shadows under the nose, neck, etc.. It will also help so that the sun is not as strong and your child will not have to squint. The sun should be shining down on your child's face, so it should be behind the photographer. One tip... you can take a piece of cardboard and cover it with aluminum foil to use as a light reflector. (NT) -- No name, 08:54:36 07/12/06 Wed
Another thing I should add. You can also take photos on a partly cloudy or overcast day. This will soften the sunlight and help with both the shadows and squinting. (NT) -- No name, 09:55:21 07/12/06 Wed
Thank you so much for your advice. I can't wait to try it out. Great tips! (NT) -- No name, 20:16:06 07/12/06 Wed
where do you place the "light reflector"?? tia! (NT) -- No name, 21:43:11 07/13/06 Thu
Where ever it is needed to reflect the light towards your child. You may or may not need it. It helps if you have someone else there to work the reflector while you take the photos. (NT) -- No name, 22:05:53 07/13/06 Thu

If there is a separate boy's division, I will usually predict it. However, if the boys and girls compete together, I usually just prefer the girl's photos better. Not always, but usually. (NT) -- No name, 08:41:03 07/26/06 Wed
