We have 130,000 troops in Iraq. The military can't remove them in a week, a month or 6 months. The Congress funded both wars via "supplementals" instead of raising taxes to pay for the wars. By the end of US participation in WW II, 50% of its cost was paid for via taxes. On December 8, 1941, FDR did not advise Americans to "go out and shop."

Bush, a wealthy ex-frat boy with an MBA from Harvard and whose life's "sacrifice" consisted of giving up the booze, had accepted as gospel Reagan's mantra that taxes are evil. And to show his disconnection from the lives of average Americans, he once stated that everyone has access to health care because all one needs to do is go to the local hospital's ER. Not only was he unaware of preventive medicine, he probably couldn't spell "preventive."
