Subject: for those too busy, these excerpts from.....

...today's NY Times:
>>> "WASHINGTON---Responding to the furor over executive pay at companies bailed out with taxpayer money, the Obama administration will order that firms that received the most aid to slash compensation to their highest paid employees. The plan, for the top 25 earners at 7 companies that received exceptional help, will on average cut total compensation by about 50 percent. The companies are Citigroup, BofA, AIG, GM, Chrysler and the financial arms of the 2 automakers."

>>> "The Defense Department said Wednesday that it would begin paying retroactive compensation to troops who were prevented from leaving the military under the contentious policy known as stop-loss. The new payments apply to about 185,000 troops who, in the years after 2001, were not allowed to retire or be discharged on time because of stop-loss, involuntary extension of active service that officials said was necessary to ensure that there were enough officers, skilled personnel and combat enlisted men for 2 wars, in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Oh, and last night I happened to see the Dickster at an awards dinner hosted by Frank Gaffney's Center for Security Policy claiming that Obama is "dithering" concerning his decision to ramp up the war in Afghanistan. Clearly, Cheney's recent hospitalization did not improve his memory. He, Rummy (who was at the dinner too--as was Scooter Libby) and The Cowboy changed targets, leaving Afghanistan to descend into warlordism and opium poppy cultivation which provided fertile soil for the resurgence of the Taliban. For those who followed the propaganda barrage leading up to the invasion of Iraq, one loud mouth haunting the cable and network Sunday bobblehead shows was Herr Gaffney, who just happens to be a member of PNAC too, the neo-con cabal that long lusted for Saddam's removal.

What was particularly galling for me was that Cheney was seated in front of the US Marine Corps flag. Cheney was a Vietnam War draft dodger.
