How often to groom depends on the fur and how dirty they get.

Was this his first grooming? Is it a groomer you know?
There is a big difference between groomers.
Ask around and tell the groomer that he is just getting used to it- a few short visits for a little clipping and lots of treats will likely help him to associate the groomer with fun. Clipping (assuming he need haircuts), nail trims, bathing, etc may have been a bit much for 1 day. Also some groomers still pluck and clean ears (shouldn't be necessary for most dogs) and express anal glands (not needed unless he is scooting his butt on the ground), having them skip those things will make it more pleasant for him.

His breath is nasty right now because he is teething and getting his molars. It will go away when he is about 10-11 months old. None of the 'miracle' additives or sprays do much. Brushing his teeth with a soft children's toothbrush will help tremedously. Regular toothpaste shouldn't be swallowed, so you need to use dog toothpaste (usually they like the malt or poultry flavor.) Brushing regularly will also stave off a lot of dental disease in the future esp if you get him (and you) used to it now.

Ahgg. Now you reminded me of teething breath. We just got a new pup Tuesday and she still has sweet puppy breath, but now I remember what is next!

He's a little yorkie - so he probably doesn't need to be bathed too often?

It was his first grooming and they were recommended.

He did get the works, and then some. The hair was matted on his under belly so they shaved all of it. He survived so he will be fine.

We went & got him toothpaste, and it will help. The vet had a vanilla mint flavor that is better that his molar breath.

Congrats on the addition to your family. I hope she knows how lucky she it.

Thanks again.

I had Molly, my sweet Maltese, for 18 years (no, that's not a typo!). I never had to pluck her ears or had her anal glands expressed. She never needed either, and I thought plucking her ears might be painful.

I gave her the first bath the day I got her at 11 weeks (2.2 tiny pounds). I groomed her myself, and she was used to it. I'd do a little at a time as she sat on my lap or next to me in the chair. She'd be so relaxed she'd fall asleep. She didn't like her nails clipped, so I'd do one or two feet at a time.

I lost her last summer to kidney failure. A few months later I adopted two older girls (8 and 9) from a shelter. They're nothing like Molly, but they have their own sweet personalities. Again, I trim them a little at a time. One falls asleep.

My ex b/f had a Rottie who hated having his feet touched, much less his nails trimmed. I'd distract him with treats while the ex clipped. Worked like a charm.
